A way to get paid doing what you love
2. Earning passive income

So the question is, "how?":

1. Clear your desk aside from a peice of paper and a notepad.
2. Ask yourself, "What are the most important problems in your field?".
3. Write down the problems
4. Identify one which you would love to solve, one problem you would be proud to solve.
5. Figure out how to go about it and just do it.

If it can be fixed using an online website, check out www.w3schools.com and learn how to create a website. If you need to learn other skills, try signing up for courses at your local community college. Learn the ways and then invest.

When you create your own unique solutions to problems you can relate to, the end result will bring you towards achieving your business dreams.

So I ask:
1. What are the most important problems in your field?
2. Are you working on one of them?
3. Why not?
Thanks for reading. But now I can host and sell websites without feeling guilty. The cost was expensive but I was sure to do as much as I could to my advantage:

1. I shopped around until I found the perfect web host for me.
2. I made sure I had long term clients that would help me pay for the hosting. One client payed up front.
3. I used promotional coupons to save 20% off my purchase. Hundreds of dollars.

But my work is not done. I have to work very hard to get as much profit as I can but now I am motivated to find hosting clients, motivated by the cost. But also motivated by the prospect of having additional passive income.

For many websites, hosting is like an infrastructure costs. This falls under a form of rent and rent is one of the ways of establishing passive income, like interest. So my suggestion to anyone that knows their way around the world wide web and finds themselves often helping others with making a website, look into reseller hosting and see if you can sell your infrastructure to those you help.
Thanks for reading. All the money you work for, all the money you safe for. No matter the origin and no matter the amount, in order to spend wisely you must think of it as if you worked hard and earned each and every dime.

Consider this:
1. Then if each website earns one dollar a day, then you make fulfill your wildest dreams but what I realized today after an offer to join one, that it is just not worth it.

It is much easier to answer 10 questions a day for kgb_ or make 1 really good website about something you are passionate about and then see how far you can push it.

Just some food for thought.
p.s. In fact, there are tons of scholarships out there sponsored by almost defunct organizations. Take AIG for example.

But unlike the bulk of the taxpayer dollars being spent to keep these sinking boats afloat, you can win some back through scholarships.

When a company that can't pay its bills is dishing out money for scholarships, I think it finally hits you that there are a good amount of scholarships just waiting for you to claim. All you need to do is be persistent and hard working about it. Don't be lazy like the rest. Fight for this money wherever you can find it, even if its taxpayer dollars (and most of it is in one shape or form).

So what are you waiting for, click here to check the scholarship details and win your tax money back!

I won't say the deadline because then you will procrastinate, but the application requires online registration and there is no reason to wait.

Remember When it comes to scholarships, it's just a matter of identifying, qualifying, and applying. Read my previous posts for more.

The HSF/General Motors Scholarship Program is open to full-time, Hispanic high school seniors through college juniors. You may be designing websites or writing articles or babysitting. It's all freelancing if you are not under an umbrella organization or agency. The pros: You don't pay excess costs and you keep the profit. The cons: Less budget for long term growth like big time marketing. For the very talented that can get clients to talk about them, its fantastic as full time. For the rest of us, there is no reason freelancing shouldn't provide supplemental income.

Why should I start freelancing?
- Need to pay off bills
- Establishing additional cash to fulfill dreams
- Escaping a bad job, long commutes, poor working conditions.
- Maintaining independent intellectual curiosity.
- Get in control of your life.

How do I start?
Tory Johnson and Robyn Freedman Spizman have written a fantastic guide called Will Work from Home: Earn the Cash--Without the Commute but let me give you some of the gist.

It comes down to finding a need and then proceeding to fill society's needs independently.
Here are some ideas about what you can offer:
- Tutoring
- Billing Specialist
- Remote Consultant
- Virtual Concierge
- Be a Virtual Assistant

Decide what talents you have, what you can offer others during your free time, and then make an offer using the world wide web. On Craigslist, Twitter, Facebook, or any job board. Don't restrain yourself to the local environment.

Advice: Find third parties you can work with, or for, from home as an independent contractor.
Remember: Prove your expertise, knowledge, and talent!
Tip: Try online job boards, forums, or even searching twitter "I need...." for freelance work.

<iframe src="http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=nile06-20&o=1&p=8&l=as1&asins=0425222853&fc1=000000&IS2=1<1=_blank&m=amazon&lc1=0000FF&bc1=FFFFFF&bg1=FFFFFF&f=ifr" style="width:120px;height:240px;" scrolling="no" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" frameborder="0">

Thanks for reading. At least that's what I read and it makes a lot of sense. It is surely better to be safe than sorry so if you are going through the hassle of filling our a scholarship, do it as well as you can so you can actually win.

How to help your chances at winning:

1. Double check that you are fully eligible
2. Complete the application in full, not just the required fields.
3. Follow every direction, even if it seems cumbersome. If it asks you to mail in folders and you don't, it may disqualify you.
4. Be neat. Type as much as you can, what you can't try to feed into a printer. If you have bad hand writing, be slow and careful.
5. Write an essay to make an impression. Be honest about yourself but be bold.
6. Stay well ahead of the deadlines.
7. Double check and confirm to make sure your application was received where it was needed.
8. Keep a saved back up. You may be able to reuse parts of your essay/application, plus it is good to have in case things go wrong.
9. Re-read, get rid of access. Be a perfectionist.
10. Ask for help via phone or email if you need it. This can help establish a personal connection with the organization.

The best tip of all is to stop reading about it and start filling out those applications.
I have decided I will spend 2 hours tomorrow on filling out applications. When will you do it? Why not now?

Best of luck to all!
Thanks for reading. But the affects are real. You feel poorly utalized. Your creaitivty drops off. Your drive vanishes. You work only for the money. That's no way to live.

Don't go crazy for the profit of others for any longer!

If you work in a dead end job towards no means, you have options. This new age of technology, start-ups, and freelancing with low barriers and a high learning curve should be your ground to make money doing something you truly love.

Escape from Cubicle Nation: From Corporate Prisoner to Thriving Entrepreneurby Pamela Slim offers fantastic advice for those that want to start new, for those that want to be independent and be successful.

The book explains your options that don't involve working for someone else. Options like:
- Home based business
- Brick and mortar
- e-Commerce
- eBay
- Franchising
- Licensing
- Multilevel marketing

The book reminds you how easy it is to identify what you should be doing.
Just ask yourself these three questions:
1. What do people pay you to do?
2. What do you love to do?
3. What do you feel meant to do/genetically encoded to do?

Think of the work that makes you feel like it's your purpose!

I'll have more great tips tomorrow and pieces of advice for establishing a small business on your own (remember to check back), but for now here is some food for thought:

Open your eyes!
Look at situations, difficult problems and ask yourself why this happening or how it could be improved and (1) figure out a solution, (2) develop the solution, (3) monetize the solution. Add value to the world with your solution.

<iframe src="http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=nile06-20&o=1&p=8&l=as1&asins=1591842573&fc1=000000&IS2=1<1=_blank&m=amazon&lc1=0000FF&bc1=000000&bg1=FFFFFF&f=ifr" style="width:120px;height:240px;" scrolling="no" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" frameborder="0">

Thanks for reading. They identify problems and establish solutions. From there, they do people a favor by spreading their solution. They add value to the world. And so can you!

In fact, you have an advantage over established entrepreneurs and big business: You can be more efficient and more effective than the big guys.

Unlike big reputable organizations with brands to protect and liabilities to preserve, you can act quickly. Realize that you can spend 1% of your time strategizing while big corporations spend 60% of their time doing strategy. You have no bureaucracy to tie you up so go out and do, spend 90% of your time doing stuff, selling stuff, calling people, acting!

Achieve with:

1. Growth through creativity
2. Growth through direction
3. Growth through delegation
4. Growth through coordination
5. Growth through collaboration

Be flexible and add to your income income through:

1. Freelancing (babysitting is freelancing too!)
2. It's time to save, make small budget changes, and adjust your lifestyle. Learn to appreciate the finer things in life and save tons and tons of money.

Remember:
- Spend less than you earn. Avoid credit!
- It's easy to make more money without making more income: just spend less and let it earn interest.

Try this out:
1. During summer hang your cloths out to let them dry. Save money, save energy, and help the environment all at once.
2. Keep your change and dump it in a bucket first thing when you get back home. You'll be amazed at how much you collect over time.
3. Pay cash and carry big bills that make you think twice before breaking. Force yourself to analyze the way you spend even as you spend. If you only carry twenties, you probably won't spit it for a pack of gum.
4. Look back at how much you saved and reward yourself: See how much you saved, see the waste you prevented, and feel accomplished!

It gets even easier:
Try this quick tip: rent for free from the library instead of Blockbuster.

So go save pennies, be frugal, and get rich slowly. It is a growing manta that is carrying many through difficult economic circumstances.
Thanks for reading. I promise to try to be short and to the point with actionable information in regards to college finances, passive income, freelancing, and money in general.

For this to happen, I am spending weekday afternoons on research in Barnes & Noble. There without buying the books I get to read the newest and the best resources for free in a great environment. I spend additional hours at home researching online.

I am franticly working to find the best content, the most insightful information, and the most powerful resources.

To help collect this information I use two new tools and I thought I would share.

1) Evernote - It's a free program and a brilliant way to sort notes. Be sure to check it out. The best part isn't that it's free but that it's free for your computer, for the web, for your iphone/ipod touch, and other mobile devices. It syncs automatically between everything and anything and allows you to get information anywhere.

2) My Moleskin. It's a fantastic pocket size notebook where I put the things that are best preserved in the hand written state or where I write down things on the fly. Definitely worth checking out.

Thanks for reading.
